We get asked many questions about what to and what not to bring...

Welcome, and thank you for taking a moment to read this section.

To help maintain a comfortable atmosphere on our 'home on the water', and avoid any awkward situations or embarrassment when you arrive, we have answered many prickly questions here.

Items that many friends forget

CHARGERS - Bring 240V chargers for your phone, laptop, iPad and other devices.

DRINKS & ALCOHOL - Bring your own alcoholic drinks. Please remove all cardboard packaging before arriving at the yacht to reduce vermin and Biosecurity challenges. While non-glass containers are preferred, we understand this is not always possible. Bottles larger than 700 ml will not fit in our fridge (see Fridges & Freezers and What NOT to Bring).

INTERNET POLICY - Starlink is primarily for the safe operation of the yacht. When available, limited password-protected access may be provided. No streaming, gaming, large downloads or uploads, or illegal activity is permitted. Yacht operations always take priority over personal device use. Install WhatsApp before departure for free calls and messaging.

TOWELS - We carry one shower towel per person. If you do not receive one, please ask. You are welcome to bring your own.

TOOTHBRUSH (Electric) - Bring your electric toothbrush. A charger is available onboard.

MEDIA DEVICES - Laptops, iPads, phones, cameras and watches are naturally attracted to water. Please take care (see Insurance).

PHOTOGRAPHERS - Highly sought after. If you enjoy photography or videography, any non-copyrighted photos or video of the yacht, sailing, underwater life or drone footage (without identifiable faces) would be greatly appreciated for possible use on our website and YouTube channel. Many people do not like having their photo taken, particularly in swimwear. Please ask for permission before taking photographs.

So as to not offend you when you arrive...

DIETS - We don’t cater to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or other diets. Cross-contamination will occur and is unavoidable due to shared equipment and storage. We carry mixed foods (nuts, meat, fish, etc.) and rely heavily on processed, dried, and tinned supplies due to limited storage. Separate refrigeration is not available.

CARDBOARD BOXES - must be removed before coming onboard.

FOOD - Food is bought in bulk and shared, with costs split via a group kitty. Fridge/freezer space is very limited and not sectioned. Strict rules apply for alcohol, pests, and waste management to meet State/country marine regulations. Food is not permitted to be eating/stored in cabins or en-suites.

SHOES - No-shoes policy on the yacht at all times, including back steps and dinghy. Medical exceptions must be discussed in advance. Remove shoes and rinse sand off your feet before boarding. We always have a bucket of water (to rinse feet and hands) at the steps, preventing sand and coral pieces from coming into our home.

SUITCASES & ESKIES - there is no storage area for either

HAIRDRYER & IRONS - one will be made available

PETS - not permitted

BEDDING - We will happily supply these as there are plenty of pillows, blankets & doonas (if you help us wash them before you leave). Many prefer to bring their own.

ENSUITE (Please ask on arrival; we forget to put it out) - Soap-a-derm Soap (neutral, hygienic, biodegradable), Johnson's Baby Shampoo (biodegradable), Washing Power, and an Oral-B electric toothbrush charger (bring your electric toothbrush). If you choose to bring any of these items, ensure your Conditioners/Soaps are biodegradable. There are strict legal overboard disposal requirements for grey waste (waste from showers and wash-basins).

SUNCREEN - SPF50 sunscreen is supplied. We strongly encourage you to use it. We also carry our homemade hygienic and biodegradable 'Midge, Sandfly, Mosquito - Dettol mixture'.

LADIES - The yacht is full of trip hazards. Long dresses present a significant trip hazard within our confined spaces and steep steps. Extra care needs to be taken when on board. Dinghy boarding (often from/into water) presents some very wet/funny/embarrassing situations with long dresses. Having said this, some countries have very strict dress codes requiring long dresses. Please contact us.

WASHING - We can machine wash small quantities of laundry (3kg max). Freshwater rinsing bathers after swimming is a quick way of washing, so bring a few pairs. If you choose to wash clothes in the shower, please do not use hot water and ensure no sand enters the shower drain. This causes damage to our shower pumps.

DRINKING WATER - We have plenty of drinkable triple-filtered alkalised water on board and carry a Sodastream for those who like it a little fizzy. There is also some type of cordial.

Medical Kits, Insurance & Kitty

We carry a 'Category 1 - Optioned Medical Kit' pertinent to extreme/remote sailing.

This is not for daily use and is locked & strictly controlled by advice from a doctor only. We have a 'ships doctor' available 24/7 if an emergency dictates.

A second separate Daily First Aid Kit is also available, with many general non-prescription daily medications found in most households. We are not permitted to recommend or physically give you any of its contents. You can, however, choose to avail yourself of its contents at your own discretion.

We also carry a Defibrillator and various inflatable splints.

YACHT PERSONAL EFFECTS INSURANCE POLICY - This policy specifically excludes mobile phones, items of jewellery, valuables, cameras, personal computers, drones, money, credit cards, travellers’ cheques and consumable stores. These are all high theft items outside Australia. Please seriously consider this risk prior to bringing them onboard.

PROHIBITED ITEMS - Illegal drugs or related paraphernalia (as listed under Australian Federal and State legislation), all/any cigarette types, and medicinal cannabis (whether prescribed or not).

KITTY - FOOD - We will mutually agree on costs prior to boarding.
WHINGING $10 (per 5-minute block),
ARGUING $1/min (min. 5 minutes),
'YOU SAID...' $100 (not negotiable),
'...BORED...' $25 (not negotiable),
SORE LOSERS $10 flat,
DON'T EAT FISH? $22.95 (don't carry change),
BLOCKING A TOILET $125/hour (min. 4hrs),
CALLING THIS YACHT 'a boat' $1 each time.

Emergency Equipment Map

On the map, find the location of the:
1. Galley Fire Extinguisher.
2. PFD's (6 x Personal Flotation Devices), that would be fantastic.
3. Emergency Exits (6) - 1 in each room and the 2 Saloon doors.
For the EXPANDED MAP.

Want a quick look at the catamaran? This is a YouTube video that runs for 9 minutes. It will also show you how to operate the Fire Extinguisher and use the PFD's.

Fridges and Freezers

Are 12vDC (about ⅓ the size of the average mainland Fridge), and both share the same little motor.

FREEZER - Limited to opening and closing twice a day.
It takes a huge amount of power from our batteries to remove the humidity/heat each time the fridge is opened. It is not designed to be opened and closed all the time.

Plan what you need from the fridge, then open and close as quickly as you can.

If there are 4 people going away for a week, the fridge is full of food. They are therefore limited to food supplies and, when space is available, drinks (including beer).

What our Fridge and freezer are not:
> Cannot fit 700ml bottles and larger.
> Beer fridge (if space is available, fine).
> Filled with raw (or frozen) fish, whether wrapped or not.
> We do have a large Esky onboard; it just needs ice!

Marine Head or Toilet

🚻 Showers & Toilets

PLEASE HELP US TO HELP YOU

ONLY EFFLUENT and OUR TOILET PAPER can go in the toilet.

TISSUES, HAIR, SANITARY ITEMS, and PAPER must all go in the bins.

MARINE HEADS (TOILETS) are not like those on the mainland. They have:
- Small pipes (finger thick), and
- One small cutting blade (thumb thick), plus
- A small water pump (fist thick) to discharge your effluent.

MARINE HEAD SYSTEMS use saltwater and have three switches. Please ask us to show you. Then, keep asking us if you forget…We will be very patient as the system can quickly go pear-shaped, and we don't want that.

ROOMS & ENSUITES - are private oases and due respect should be paid before entering any other rooms/ensuites (unless in an EMERGENCY).

SHOWERS & WATER - Inside showers are NOT to be used for removing sand; please use the outside shower (that includes removing sand from inside bathers). Sand damages the rubber components in the shower pump-out system.

Consideration:
1. Our hot water is 40 litres.
2. Each normal shower uses 40 litres. Theoretically, that leaves no hot water for the next person!
3. Please consider water use as best you can.

Comical Man feeling sick

🤮 Seasickness

Seasickness is often blamed on pre-existing medical problems (in particular with the inner ear, sinuses, and/or balance). The chances of getting seasick are increased when arriving tired.

Arriving with pre-existing issues around the inner ear/head (such as headaches, colds, COVID, or sniffles) will affect your balance on the water.

The good thing - seasickness dissipates the more you sail over time. Seasickness will wear off with most people; it takes 4-24 hours.

Everyone can get seasick, including seasoned sailors. The trick is to be proactive BEFORE it gets worse. If you are unsure, many Chemist tablets can help; consider getting these before joining us.

Some tablets need to be taken in advance, not once you feel sick; by then it's too late. Remember that 95% of our sailing is in what they class as 'Calm Waters'.

If you are unsure, start with these guidelines:
The major DON'Ts:
1. Don't go into the hulls when UNDERWAY.
2. Don't lie down inside when UNDERWAY.
3. Don't put your head between your knees with your eyes closed.

The Major DOs:
1. Tell someone, preferably the Skipper.
2. Get outside and face the breeze.
3. Look at the horizon, not close to you.
4. Get someone to talk to and try to get distracted.

COVID, BIRD FLU, etc - Quarantining on a yacht can be very, very challenging. Just ask us; we have done a 14-day stint already, and you are not allowed to move off the yacht. So, if you suspect that you have any Flu-like symptoms, please get it checked out before you arrive.

Comical Dishes piled up on a sink

🧽 Cooking, Washing Up

GALLEY - The galley is a small area, suitable for one person only. Be mindful if someone is trying to cook and you want to use the galley at the same time.

COOKS - as long as you clean up after yourself. Leaving any mess for someone else to clean is not welcome (unless it is agreed otherwise).

Take away thoughts - we love using the BBQ. One (or two) pot wonders, even better.

WASHING-UP - The dishwasher died...and we do not store dirty dishes in the sink. So, please wash up straight away; this includes if you are cooking (unless it is agreed otherwise).

Galley Area
1. Cooktop - suitable for one person only
2. Sink - suitable for one person only
3. Sink - 'clean sink policy' (ie no dishes in sink)

That is it...let the fun begin. If you have got this far, thank you so much.

Call us if you have any questions.
